1. Understanding Fire

This module gives an overview into the nature of fire, explaining its ignition, sustained combustion, the concept of the fire triangle and strategies to stop the fire and prevent ignition. Understanding these aspects is crucial for Fire Wardens, directly influencing their roles. The module also explores some of the common causes of fire and the different types of hazardous substances that could exist in a workplace and how to minimise the fire risks associated with them.

2. Fire and the Law

The law regarding fire safety is strict, with potentially costly consequences, including imprisonment in certain instances. This module focuses on the essential legal aspects of fire safety, who is responsible for fire safety in the workplace and an outline of other possible supporting roles for fire safety in the team.

3. Fire Risk Assessments

Your workplace must possess fire risk assessments outlining fire hazards. This module provides an overview of fire risk assessments and the five essential stages and their contribution to fire protection. As a Fire Marshal, you may need to assist the Responsible Person in reviewing or creating fire risk assessments and you also should understand the role of the fire safety emergency plans. This module also clarifies the concepts of risk and hazard and their relevance to workplace fire risk assessments.

4. Practical Fire Safety in the Workplace

This module explores the practical aspects of fire safety in the workplace, including the identification of potential fire hazards and the fire safety procedures that may be implemented in your workplace. Also in the module it highlights the various types of fire safety signs you may encounter, the different fire detection and warning systems that might be present and essential information about fire escape methods. Additionally, it emphasises the pivotal role of the Fire Marshal or Warden in the workplace fire safety process.

5. Fire Extinguishers

While you may not encounter a fire emergency often, knowing the correct fire extinguisher type and usage procedure is crucial. Fire Wardens must understand fire extinguisher operation and their role in equipment placement and maintenance. Fire blankets and their role are also outlined in this module.

6. Being a Fire Warden

After acquiring fire safety knowledge from the course, this module explains how it relates to your role as a Fire Warden and outlines some of the duties you may be required to perform. Understanding these responsibilities is important, as Fire Wardens play an integral role in the ongoing protection and safety processes and typically take charge during emergencies, implement evacuation procedures and organise fire drills.

Our certifications include a renewal date but there is no legal requirement to renew your training and certificate within a specific timeframe. However, we do recommend that you arrange refresher training after 2 years as fire safety guidance does change. You should update your fire safety knowledge and skills regularly.

You can also decide to take a face-to-face Fire Marshal Training courses, they typically last half a day, approximately 3 hours.
