In our online Safeguarding for Equestrians Online Training, you’ll learn your safeguarding responsibilities as a coach, instructor, official or volunteer in an equestrian setting.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Get an understanding of British Equestrian’s guidance within the safeguarding protection framework.
- Identify and recognise the signs of various categories of abuse.
- Position yourself centrally in any safeguarding processes.
- Understand complaint procedures and correctly handle allegations.

1. Introduction
In this module, you’ll learn what child protection and adult safeguarding involve. If someone confides in you or if you suspect an issue, you’ll know how to respond. By the end of the module, you’ll understand important safeguarding terms.
2. Legislation and Guidance
By the end of the module, you’ll have a clear understanding of safeguarding principles and it also introduces the role of a Safeguarding Officer.
3. What is Abuse?
By the end of the module, you’ll have a clearer understanding of what abuse entails and its various forms.
4. Signs and Indicators of Abuse and Neglect
In this module, you’ll learn how to identify the various signs of abuse and understand what abuse really means.
5. A Person-Centred Focus
6. Responding to Concerns
By the end of the module, you’ll know the right steps to take in a potential abuse situation.
7. Complaints and Allegations
In this module, you’ll learn the right way to deal with complaints and allegations.
Who is this course for?
- Equestrian coaches/instructors who have taken a British Equestrian Federation face-to-face course in the last 3 years
Certification
Upon successful completion of this online course, you’ll be sent a personalised digital certificate as a PDF, enabling you to download and print it.
You can access a copy, reprint or download this certificate on our LMS (Learning Management System). This is your proof that you have been trained in safeguarding best practices and achieved compliance. The certificates include a verification number so anybody can authenticate the certificate’s legitimacy.
Our certifications include a renewal date but there is no legal requirement to renew your training and certificate within a specific timeframe. However, we do recommend that you arrange refresher training after 3 years as safeguarding guidance does change. You should update your safeguarding knowledge and skills regularly.
