4. Signs and Indicators of Abuse and Neglect

Many individuals, regardless of their age, struggle to vocalise the abuse they endure. Their anxiety might manifest as altered or challenging behaviors, which are crucial indicators of potential abuse. Perpetrators frequently conceal their actions, sometimes even presenting as caring individuals. Identifying these subtle signs can be a warning of a potentially harmful situation.

By the end of this module, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the definitions of abuse and understand how to recognise the various signs associated with different types of abuse.

5. Maintaining a Person-Centred Approach

Numerous abuse cases are reported multiple times before receiving the appropriate intervention. Adopting a person-centred approach ensures that potential victims are prioritised in safeguarding situations.

By the end of this module, you’ll gain a clearer insight into the principles of a person-centred care.

6. Responding to Concerns

This module expands on the discussions from earlier modules which emphasised effective inter-agency consultation and identifying abuse signs. While it’s important to maintain confidentiality, you must also recognise when and to whom to report to. Prompt and appropriate responses to abuse disclosures are crucial. This module guides you through the correct processes, detailing both the recommended actions and those to avoid.

By the end of the module, you’ll understand the steps to take when faced with potential abuse situations. It also includes a step-by-step guide that will assist you in addressing any concerns you encounter.
